"I have been through its schools and I know perfectly well the progress made by the Latin branch of the Church in the field of development of Christian thought: theology, philosophy, the practice of Confession, the development of the religious Orders, the veneration of the Sacred Heart, and the study of Dogma. In these fields we are their humble disciples and we borrow from them all we need. But at the same time we recognize the failings of our great Sister the Latin Church, which are the result of its long separation from the Holy and Mystical East: for example, a decrease in Asceticism, and also utilitarianism, narrowness of outlook, and a lack of asthetic sense in the Liturgy or of vivacity and simplicity in Faith."
