I am interested in buying a good Book(s) on the lives of Saints. I am currently considering Great Synaxaristes - Lives of the Saints by Holy Apostles Convent....would this be a wise selection or are there others out there that may be more desirable?

Thankyou!

I would certainly recommend the Great Collection of the Lives of the Saints, compiled by Saint Demetrius of Rostov. Chrysostom Press [chrysostompress.org] in the St. Louis area is publishing the series in English translation. Seven volumes are now available, with the rest on the way.

I see from their website that a substantial discount [chrysostompress.org] is currently available if all seven available volumes are purchased as a set.

Chrysostom Press has also published the four-volume Explanation of the Gospel [chrysostompress.org] by Blessed Theophylact.
