Dear Shoshanna-Sharon,

Yes, I'm so excited about Uniontown, even though I've never been there, that I'll definitely have to come down next year!!

Rosaries and Akathists together - sounds just like my style, you betcha Mother!

And can I apply the Odpust to the souls in Purgatory? wink

St Peter Mohyla would have loved Uniontown too!!

I'll quit while I think I'm ahead, O.K.?

For all who are coming from out of the area -

Welcome to Southwestern Pennsylvania! The Laurel Highlands are beautiful in summer, and the views of the landscape around Mt. St. Macrina are beautiful too.

I volunteered Friday - if you read the road signs or drove over the orange cones - that's my humble effort. I'll be back either Sunday or Monday to help clean up.

Sharon, Eat 'N Park is a Pittsburgh tradition. the original was a drive in, like A&W Root Beer. Yes it's backwards, but it's supposed to be that way.

There are two good restaraunts just down US 40 from Uniontown. One is the Sun Porch Inn in Hopwood. There is another on the northbound side of US 40 on the other side of Mount Summit (the name escapes me now).

Take care, all.

Alex,

Yes, the reciting of the Latin Rosary is still permitted, as it is one Latinization that is down right impossible to get rid of, especially when so many Roman Catholics show up at Otpust. It would be nice if someday everybody would be reciting the Jesus prayer on their own personal "Chotki", but I don't think I or anybody else will see that happen in our lifetime. Also, the "old school" candle light Eucharistic procession with the bishops holding a ciborum under a canopy is still a highlight. While the Moleben to Jesus Lover of Mankind (or Moleben to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as it was originally called) is being sung by the priests and pilgrims (doesn't sound right when sung in English, but the Slavonic verses "O Svjatishe, Serdce Isusa, pomiluj nas" will transport you back in time to "Starij Kraju" (Galicia or Podkarpats'ka-Rus' a century ago)and then is ended with the traditional Latinization, the Eurcharistic Benediction ("Supplikatsi")which also doesn't sound as good when sung in English, it sounds more "Vostochnik" when sung in the Church Slavonic language. Alex you must come to the Uniontown Otpust, even with the latinizations, it still is a great spiritual retreat and pilgrimage!! S'bohom! (O Svatishe, Sedce Isusa, pomiluj nas! Just rehersing the Stichom!)

SLAVA ISUSU CHRISTU!
SLAVA NA VIKI BOHU!

Walked past the Perpetual Rosary on Sunday afternoon and heard, BOHORODICU DIVO RADUJSJA, BLAHODATNAJA MARIJA, HOSPOD S'TOBOJU....

The tiny chapel was packed, you couldn't get another person in with a shoe-horn. It reminded me my grandparents village in Slovakia and the women chanting the Rosary before Divine Liturgy.

Brought tears to my eyes....

ps

A seminarian friend from Mukachevo was at the Otpust and wondered what was up with Bishop Kuzma and his new headgear....

Mark,

Yes the kamilavkas and klobuks are slowly creeping back, first Metropolitan Judson at Holy Resurrection Monastery, then Bishop John, now Bishop George, the deacons in Parma, before you know it I'll have one... soon everyone will have one and it will be anarchy. smile

In Christ,
Lance

PS. Sorry I missed you at Otpust.

Hi Lance!

I saw you at the candle light procession on Sunday evening. You were walking "alone" and dressed in white dalmatic, just in front of the seminarians I do believe.

Didn't have a chance to speak to you.

I have a question for any of the cantors who may have sung at the various ligturgies. Does anyone have music and words to the "Litmanova Hymn", Spivajme veselo. I heard it on Sunday morning coming from the Motherhouse chapel, I was waiting for confession. It was in ENGLISH and I nearly fell over. I'd like to get copies of the English words and music, also the Slavonic words if anyone has them. I'd to get our parish singing this hymn.

Thanks!

ps
Sharon, it was great to meet and Wolf on Monday morning. He's so precious!

I'm not a cantor, but here goes... (I only have the Rusyn words; there are English words -- probably done by Father Basil Kraynyak -- but I don't know them off hand.)

Hymn in honor of the Nativity of the Mother of God

Spivajme veselo krasnu pisn' Mariji,
Vospojte sohlasno vsi v nebi svjatyji.
....Rodilasja nas~a radost'
....Diva svjata, prec~istaja,
....Marija, Marija,
....Marija krasnaja.

Idem vsi ljubovno, Moljas~c~esja Bohu,
I vozdajme chvalu na radost' premnohu.
....Rodilasja nas~a radost'...

Radostno likujme, pisni vosklicajme,
Na radost' Mariji krasno zaspivajme.
....Rodilasja nas~a radost'...

Prijdite voschvalim Boha jedinoho
S~to On nas izbavil od vraha ljutoho.
....Rodilasja nas~a radost'...

There are 7 more verses, but those are the first four. I wish I had a music editing program; I'd write out the notation if I did. Oh well, another project for "someday."

Hi Lemko Rusyn

Thanks for the help.

My cousins in Presov sent me a book with the words and music to the song a few years ago. I lent the book to someone and never got it back. This person insists that I never lent them anything...

Oh, well, live and learn...

Mark:

If you are referring to the Prjashev (Presov) book of hymns (blue cover), Sister Jean Marie, OSBM was distributing them for free at the information table near the ice cream stand. Maybe you could write to her for another copy. There are many available.
