My closest priest friend in the Eastern Rite is a strong believer in the Rosary.

I have heard Vietnamese (Latin-rite) Catholics chanting the rosary. It was very moving and produced what I would subjectively identify as an atmosphere of profound devotion.

FYI -I myself like praying the rosary privately although I am a Greek Catholic.And the same goes for the Chaplet of Divine Mercy proposed by St. Faustina Kowalska.

My family and I pray both of these in our home or at family gatherings. Being done loudly in church prior to Liturgy or even a Latin Mass is sometimes very distracting to those that want to pray and prepare for the reception of our Lord.

Sometimes the "leader" will stare you down till you leave or join them and I really don't think this is something to be desired.

People involved in Greek Catholicism were debating this when I started reading them on the Web 10 years ago and still will be 10 years from now.

Rome/don't self-latinise + longstanding custom to the contrary = pastoral sensitivity.

Where it's done in church, don't thoughtlessly stamp it out but don't start it either.

Prayer forms at home are up to the person.

We have Third Hour and Matins on alternate weeks. I don't recall what happens on the fifth Sunday when it occurs . . .

I recall being at a conference in Amsterdam, and stumbling unexpectedly upon a Roman Catholic church--with the door open on a weekday, at that!

I entered, and by the cadence concluded that they were praying the rosary. I figured that meant that Mass would follow shortly, and stuck around. I could certainly follow, but the language was intriguing--I could follow one entire sentence of Dutch, then not a word of the next . . .
