I noticed that a Facebook friend in Slovakia joined this Facebook Fan page - "Gréckokatolíci neexistujú, máme len rímskokatolíkov východného obradu!" Per Google it roughly means:"Greek-Catholics don't exist, we have only the Roman Catholics of Eastern rite!" Under its description it says: "Gréckokatolíci - toto pomenovanie vymyslela Mária Terézia pre rímskokatolíkov východného rítu! Nemá to nič spoločné s Gréckom! V Grécku je podľa oficiálnych štatistik 98% pravoslávnych! Nech sa naši rímskokatolíci východného obradu konečne stanú dobrými katolíkmi!" translated as "Greek-Catholics - the name of Maria Theresa to figure out the Roman Catholics of Eastern rite! It has nothing to do with Greece! In Greece, according to official statistics, 98% Orthodox! Let our Eastern Rite Roman Catholics finally become good Catholics!" Via YouTube I have noticed over the years that some parishes in Slovakia are heavily Latinized (Kuzmice) while others are indistinguishable from the Orthodox (video clips from Bratislava reflect a very Eastern rubric). Does anyone have any knowledge as to whether this Fanpage is reflective of discontent in the Slovak Byzantine Church about Eastern liturgical restorations? The picture along the page is, to say the least, very 'old-school' and reminds me of my youth.

Dear friend, I went immediately to check that group, and you can be assured, that the group you are refering to is not by any means reflecting any discontent within the Slovak Greek Catholic Church. Out of those 10 memebers (as for now) majority are members of the Orthodox Church in Slovakia. One of them at least being a priest, and at least one seminarian. Really an interesting way how to be living the period of Great Fast. I hope, that they will stop that group before Pascha... What kind of Pascha is this going to be for them is up to your decision...

Saddened friend...

DMD I noticed in the lenten hymns you posted, I found it interesting in the slovak Let My Prayers... clip that the altar boys were kneeling in front of the altar along side the priest.

Is that one of the Latinizations?

The overall style of the Church is what struck me. It reminded me of the ACROD parishes from the early 1950's such as Nesquehoning, Freeland, Taylor and Scranton, PA before they installed iconostasis. I am sure than some of my Byzantine Catholic contemporaries have similar recollections of their churches of that era as well. Likewise the 'short' felon that the priest is wearing is rarely seen these days, if at all. I am not being critical, just making an observation.
