What is the name of this Cathedral?

Are those all the saints surrounding Christ?

Beautiful!

Podruha,

Welcome to the forum.

That is the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Assumption of the Theotokos in Denver.

At their website, you can see additional photos, including some others of the dome and detail. See here [assumptioncathedral.org]

Many years,

Neil

Wonderful Iconography!

Interesting note:

I think this is the first time I have seem an Orthodox Church use the phrase "Assumption of the Theotokos" instead of Dormition.

John,

It's something that struck me many years ago but, over time, I've noted that it's not uncommon - primarily, but not exclusively, with Greek Orthodox temples. A quick search on yahoo just now, using 'Orthodox Church Assumption' produced a lot of hits. The bulk were GO, but I also saw Albanian, Bulgarian, Hungarian, OCA, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, and Ukrainian parishes - no Antiochian though.

It seems as though a lot of Orthodox Cathedrals, especially in the Old Countries, are titled Assumption.

Many years,

Neil

Now why would a Cathedral or Church in one of the "Old Countries" use an English name?

That sounds as though I'm being silly, but I'm quite serious. The point is that in Slavonic, for example, Uspenije can be translated (into English) as either Dormition or Assumption. The same is true of the Greek Koimisis, and so forth.

There actually is a word in Church-Slavonic which would mean "Assumption", but I've never heard it used.

This cathedral made not only me, but my brother and my atheist friend cry when we saw it....and we're 18-20 year old young men hahah.

I am so proud to live in a city with such a beautiful representation of the Christian East.
