Can any one here tell me about St. Olav and his relationship to the church. Was he Orthodox?

If you do I search, I posted his akafist a while back.

St Olav was pre schism and recognized by both East and West.

I drank from the well that sprung up from where his body lay after he was brought to Trondheim and was cured of an ailment contracted in Africa.

I am not familiar with I Search. Is it something akin to Google? I tried pulling it up but could not find anything that looked like a search engine. Thanks for the link.

Dear Alexandr,

I did a search for the Akathist to St Olav and the closest I came to it was the actual liturgical service for 29 July, composed by Reader Isaac Lambertsen, that you posted on 1 September 2008 (Message # 298595). If there is an Akathist to this Saint, I would be quite interested to see it. Could you provide a link?

Asking that you forgive me, a sinner, I wish you a Good Fast!

Dear Viking,

On 1 September 2008, Alexandr posted to the Byzantine Forum an Orthodox service to King Olav II Haraldson, Enlightener of Norway, commemorated in the Menaion on 29 July. This service was composed by Reader Isaac Lambertsen. If you'd like to read it, or use it, it can be found as message # 298295. It is also is available on-line at the Orthodox England site at the following link:

Service to St Olav of Norway [orthodoxengland.org.uk]

Reader Isaac also composed services to other saints of Norway: the Passion-bearer Hallvard of Husaby, Patron of Oslo (15 May), and the Virgin Martyr Sunniva & Her Companions (8 July). Alexandr has done us the favour of posting these services as well. You can find them on the Byzantine Forum as messages 298594 and 298591 respectively. I believe they are also found at the Orthodox England site. Actually the thread begun by Alexandr entitled "For our Viking Friends :)" is very instructive. It seems like it was made to order just for you!

Einar,

My guess is that Alexandr typoed - and the line should have read "If you do a search ..."

Many years,

Neil
