I am a Latin Rite Catholic, but I very much love the Eastern Churches--especially the Eastern approach to spirituality.

I've read several Orthodox books which I enjoyed tremendously (e.g., The Orthodox Way, The Orthodox Church, Historical Road, The Historical Road of Eastern Orthodoxy and several others.

I also love listening to several Ancient Faith podcasts (e.g., Coffee Cup Commentaries, At the Intersection of East and West, The Names of Jesus, Orthodixie and more.)

So my questions are:

  • Can you recommend any Eastern Rite Catholic books along this vein?
  • Can you recommend any Eastern Rite Catholic podcasts along this vein?

Thank you for your help,
MS

Wow no responses. I'm surprised.

So if you don't listen to or read any Eastern Catholic podcasts or books, what podcasts do you listen to? What books have helped you grow in your spiritual life?

Keep in mind that many of our members post less actively during the Lenten season, so responses may be slower in coming than at other times.

The broadcasts from Annunciation Byzantine in the Chicago suburbs, hosted by Father Tom Loya assisted by Katie G, both of whom are members here, is very popular. Works by Archbishop Joseph Raya, of blessed memory, are widely read, as are many others.

Additionally, you'll find that many of our EC members are faithful listeners of Ancient Faith Radio and that Orthodox texts, including those of Archbishop Kallistos Ware, are regular reading for many of them.

Many years,

Neil

Thank you, Neil. I feel a little sheepish for not realizing why responses were so few. I totally understand and admire the abstainance.

I have listened to Light of the East a few times and enjoyed it. I will make it a point to add his podcast to my iPod.

Glory to Jesus Christ!

MS,

A great question to consider on the Feast of the Annunciation.

To add to Neil's comments, I would suggest a visit to Eastern Christian Publication's website at http://www.ecpubs.com . Also, check out Eastern Christian Media at http://www.easternchristianmedia.com .

In Christ,

John

I mentioned this on the Catholic Answers forums, but I'll post here too. I see Eastern Christian Publications has already been mentioned. I'd recommend checking out Orientale Lumen Television (www.oltv.tv). You'll find a ton of great videos there, many of which were done by Metropolitan Kallistos. There's also some great videos by Fr. Robert Taft, the leading Byzantine liturgical scholar to date.
