My wife and I used the time we had during the Great Fast, for reflection and prayer. Not only in our relation to the Lord, but where we stand in His church.
We have decided that we are Catholic and that's where we will stay. It would be easier to convert to Orthodoxy and have a weekly Divine Liturgy only 50 milies away. But, that would be for the wrong reasons.
We will maintain our communionn with the Bishop of Rome through the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh and do everyting we can to help get more and more people interested in the whole of the Catholic faith; East and West.
Is everything perfect? No, never; but we can do everything we can to live by our Lord's example.
Peace, James

People who know me well also know that I'm determined to remain in communion with Rome. So I'm glad that's what you have chosen to do - I respect folks who leave to go over to the Orthodox Church and i think I see/understand their reasons. it's between them and God, so who am I to stick my snout into such a situation?
Still, as you say, the Catholic Church is imperfect - in fact, it's quite a mess and journalists are determined to shove their negative, hostile views on the Church into our respective faces.
If we want an improved Catholic Communion of Churches, that improvement has to start with US -with our own personal repentance and conversion. Salvation is a process and it ain't always a cake walk.

Salvation is a process and it ain't always a cake walk. Emphasis mine. So well put and so succinct. I've often said faith is not for sissies. It's for those who don't shrink from getting down and dirty. Bob

Didymus:
The Lord is hanging on the Cross for us as I write!!
The Lord struggles to breathe while on the Cross. The whole point of crucifying a man is to make his breathing a struggle and to cause him to suffocate. It seems to me that our faith life is like that--a struggle wherein we often have to stop and catch our breath. Of course, our breath is the Holy Spirit, breathed into us at Baptism and Chrismation. But to take one's faith life, one's pilgrimage seriously, it also seems to me that one must stop and catch one's breath periodically, assessing where one is with one's relationship with Christ and with His Church. It's a unique thing--a personal commitment made within the context of the Mystical Body wherein we find ourselves "in Christ."
May the Lord bless your struggle as you pray and study to discern His desire for you and for where He wants you to be to leaven the environment you are in for His Glory.
Bob

I am encouraged by your posting. While I respect all my Orthodox brethren, I too find communion with Rome to be an important truth and priority worth holding on to even in difficult times and matters. And I say this not to cause division or fight, simply to say, that I find joy in your news. May the Lord help you and your family be faithful to Him.
