Mystery of Crowning January 9, 2010

These pictures were taken at St. John the Baptist Church in Lyndora, PA, when my wife, Kathryn, and I were married.

The exterior of that church is a mirror image of Holy Spirit Byzantine Catholic Church in Binghamton, NY which was built after the split with St. Michael's,now ACROD, located two blocks down the street. Does anyone know why the similarity?

So I made a few mistakes on the captions, they all need moved over one. The last picture is one I just thought I would add because it looked nice.

David,

Although I've never seen St John's in real life, I have seen Holy Spirit - and agree with you, the two are remarkably similar in appearance.

Comparing photos in the 75th anniversary book of the Metropolia, a few differences are observable - slightly peaked (HS) vs arched (St Jn) center portion, flat (HS) vs arched (St Jn) door lintel, and very slightly more elaborate steeple design (St Jn). The two were constructed within a few years of one another - Holy Spirit in 1952 and St John in 1955, but I don't know if the same architects or contractors might have been involved.

Many years,

Neil

Ed:

Congratulations and many years. May I share with you the prayer I wrote the morning I was married?

Prayer of the Married

Lord, my God, have mercy on ________ and me. Grant that we may perceive that the married state is holy and that we must keep it so. Grant that no strife, quarrel, or enmity may arise between us or hereafter become active among us. Grant us our Daily Bread whereby we may ever serve You with a quiet mind and deepen our Communion with You and with each other. Let us finally attain to Your Kingdom and have You recognize us as Your own. For to You are due all glory, honor, and worship, together with Your Father Who is from everlasting, and Your All-Holy, Good, and Life-giving Spirit, now and ever and forever. AMEN.
