Well, Iconophile, I would say it's because that is his serious belief about the issue. I think he's wrong and almost everyone on this site would say that what he is saying is silly and wrong.

Your comment seemed to be an ad hominem. You could have simply pointed out the silliness of his statement or just let its nonsense stand out for all to see.

I thought my humorous response showed the silliness of a dissenting Catholic appealing to the infallible authority of the popes quite effectively!
But then I am a natural born smart ass. I consider it a gift from God...

On a forum that is supposed to be for both Catholic and Orthodox believers I find this incongruous, to say the least.
It is never charitable to make a judgment against a specific individual. I think that Booth is ready for the League of Little Popes is not a charitable statement.

I disagree strongly with much of what Booth has posted (his perspective is more Feenyite than Catholic). But, to his credit, Booth has been fairly charitable in his posts.

On the whole, Iconophiles post at 9:13 AM today (less the little pope stuff) is a good summary of the Churchs teaching on the matter.

Someone mentioned earlier that the Church's position is clear with regard to Islam. What is quite clear is the Church's teaching on the Triune Nature of God. This is not open for compromise, nor reduction, nor redefinition. Very significant divisions have erupted in the history of the Church and several Ecumenical Councils had to convene to reiterate these teachings.

Attempting to say someone believes in the same God but somehow is deceived or misunderstands, or projecting one's triune vision of God on another who has none is akin to someone who owns a Ford being told he really owns a Mercedes but he doesn't understand. He does understand. It is not the same.

Diak- actually a more apt analogy would be you saying that he doesn't own an automobile because he is unaware of the nature of the internal combustion engine!
