Isn't this similar to the contraversy between the re-baptism of heretics in which Pope St. Stephen (ca 250AD) did not require rebaptism. Wouldn't this be, essentially, the same thing? Faced with similar problem in the East, St. Basil the Great noted that the sacraments of heretics lack grace, therefore they should be rebaptized, but the Church, by oikonomia, could accept their baptisms as valid when the rejoin the Church. It was a pragmatic and pastoral matter--there were many heretics to be received, and to rebaptize all would have been impractical if not logistically impossible. And the Eastern Churches accepted St. Basil's reasoning until the middle of the 18th century, when, for a short period, and in response to the Melkite Schism, the Ecumenical Patriarchate insisted upon the rebaptism of Catholics. But I believe that was essentially a political decision.

how, in this forum, do you guys use those selective quotes where you are just quoting a certain sentence cuz it ain't working for me?????
I know this is a tech question but there is a good example in here of how my quotes are not working and others, such as you quoting theophan, is working. Manuel, Your problem is somewhat compounded by the fact of you being 'new'. Until you are 'released' from 'moderated status' - which should be within the next few days, some of the features (the quote feature being one) don't work quite as they should. What I did - quoting from two separate posts (Father's and Bob's) requires a bit more playing around - and sometimes isn't worth the time and effort required (which is why you'll see folks post twice in succession - quoting and answering 2 different persons - and you think, 'why didn't they just combine it into 1 post?') Many years, Neil

I'm sure that it can be done manually, but I simply use a right-click to open quoted responses to each person, trim the quoted material, and then paste back into a single response. I may not be the best person to listen to on such things, though . . . my acceptance of firefox instead of lynx is still recent, and I use a Mac as my unix platform, rather than in its own right. Yes, my preferred way of reading a website is to link the . on lynx for .html links to a script that launches a new xterm that runs lynx again on the link . . . but then, I'm a cranky old-guard guy that still sees X as a way to run multiple terminals (text), and uses terminals on a mac to launch programs and print . . . and, yes, my use of italics rather than * i the preceding paragraph is uncharacteristic . . . hawk, an old fogey before his time . . .

I'm assuming you're not using a mac (which modifies things a bit). If you point at "quote" and use your right button instead the regular button, when you hold it down, the first (?) choice is something like, "open in a new window". When there are related comments that I want to quote, I do this for each of them. I then trim the text in each new window, and finally use cut and paste to put it all into one comment.

Hello dochawk, Thank you for the advice but I'm using a good ol' pc, not mac. I was having issues because I was not a full member yet. But now no problems. Thank you and God bless, Kyrie eleison, Manuel

Of interest is that, in recent years, the Catholic Church is starting to move away from the Augustinian and toward the Cyprianic theory - witness the Milingo fiasco a few years ago. What in particular about the Milingo case shows the movement as characterized, "away from the Augustinian and toward the Cyprianic theory"?

... Augustinian (from Blessed Augustine of Hippo, as you said) and Cyprianic (from Saint Cyprian of Carthage) "Blessed Augustine ... Saint Cyprian." Has Augustine been "demoted" (or was he always) -- or just two ways, blessed/saint, to say the same thing?

Dear Friends:
According to the Catholic Tradition, the Orthodox do have the priesthood and the sacraments.

Maybe they should put out an APB for all those stolen sacraments.

Therefore, I refuse to recognize these Churches as sources of sanctification in themselves. Then you deny what the Roman Catholic Church teaches.
