It's my understanding that the Ethiopian (Ge'ez) Catholics and the Melkites are the only Eastern/Oriental Churches with a presence in Sudan. Archbishop Jules Zreii, Titular Archbishop of Damietta, is the Melkite Patriarchal Vicar for Egypt and the Sudan.

Neil The current Melkite Patriarchal Vicar for Egypt and Sudan (since 2008) is Archbishop Georges Bakar, titular of Pelusium. He was Patriarchal Vicar for Jerusalem from 2006 to 2008. Archbishop Joseph Jules Zerey, titular of Damietta, was Patriarchal Vicar for Egypt and Sudan from 2001 to 2008. He is Melkite Patriarchal Vicar for Jerusalem since 2008. I think, the Syriac Catholic bishop of Cairo is also Patriarchal Vicar (or Exarch maybe) for Sudan.

I was looking at an out-dated list. Thanks for correcting that. I think, the Syriac Catholic bishop of Cairo is also Patriarchal Vicar (or Exarch maybe) for Sudan. You're correct, the Syriacs do, apparently, have a presence there. Bishop Clement (Hannouche) of Cairo is also titled Protosyncellus of Sudan, which the Syriac Patriarchate describes as a 'Territory Dependent on the Patriarch'. Many years, Neil

The Coptic Catholic Church is very small compared to the Coptic Orthodox Church. I don't know if they have any presence in Sudan. There is nothing in the Annuario Pontificio about the Maronite Bishop of Cairo also being Patriarchal Exarch or Protosyncellus for Sudan. Anyway, there can't be many Maronites in Khartoum, can there? But then again, there are only 55 Syriac Catholics...

Given that both the Greek Melkites and the Syriac Catholics have an official presence in Sudan, I don't think there is anything to stop the Coptic Catholics from establishing a Protosyncellus or Patriarchal Exarch for Sudan.
