Tim, do you have any information on where the original parishioners of Holy Trinity Cathedral in Chicago came from?

Many of the founders were Lemko-Rusyns.
Here are some of the original families and where they came from: Charnota, Chichony and Labant families were from Spis (Velky Lipnik, Kamjonka areas). Kurey (Kurej), Skarlose (Skarlosh, Skarlosz) and Tuddy (Tuduj, Tudej) were all from Koroleva Ruska/Bogusza in Lemkovyna.
Church elders who were Lemko were: Ivan Gratson, Vasil Pristash, Alexander Ziwicky (Krynica area), Ivan Tirlich, Nick Leniak (Koroleva Ruska), George Dziadyk (Czyrna), Prokop Tuddy (Koroleva Ruska), Andrew Koblosh (Wysowa). John Bihun's family was from Zakarpatya.

Thanks, that makes sense. I have this book [ amazon.com] by Fr. George Lane and he states in it that the original founders came from "southern Russia near the Ukraine and the area around the Carpathian mountains".

Holy Trinity Cathedral (OCA) of Chicago produced a superb, illustrated history for its centennial ("A History of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Cathedral of Chicago, 1892-1992"). Most of its early membership was described as "Galicians and Ugro-Russians." The following were among its founding members: Gregory and Vasili Feciura; other names: Bernath, Charnota, Chichony, Decho, Draguschik, Frentzko , Krayniak, Kurey, Labant, Lasch, Melnik, Pasko, Poruchnik, Pristash, Sermanyak, Shukel, Skarlose, Tema, Tuddy, and Ziwicky.
