Herb and Rose,

Clapton collaborated on the writing of this song back in the mid-80s, though the major credit for the lyrics belongs to a singer and songwriter named Stephen Bishop (his best known and best selling song was probably 'On and On', back in the late 70s). I seem to remember that Holy Mary was composed in and dedicated to the memory of a deceased musician.

Clapton has been described as a 'Christian' in his beliefs, but I've never seen anything more definitive than that.
