Hi,

I was having a chat with a protestant man, and I spent a good long time explaining to him the Catholic faith. He mis-understood nearly everything.

Are there any youTube videos or links that have been made to respond to Protestants concerning their qualms about the RC's doctrines.

They have clearly misunderstood things such as your Icons, Statues, Eucharist, Baptism, Priesthood etc..

I really feel the need to do this. This man, and there are many like him, who love to evangelise, yet are spending their time attacking the RC and Catholics in general, over their faith, rather than directing their energies towards people who may not even know God at all.

I agree with certain things they say, such as "Being Catholic doesn't mean you are saved", that's true. But I told him that he has no right to judge WHO is saved and WHO is not saved in the Catholic Church.

Thanks in advance for providing me with any supporting links that are dedicated to answering such people from your Church,

Christ is in our midst!!

Many a man bent on converting Catholics cannot be reached, no matter what you might try. For many, there is little education on which to build and no frame of reference with which to meet. For many I've met, if the Catholic Church disappeared tomorrow, they'd have no frame of reference for their own belief system because half of it is simply blind anti-Catholicism driven by the worst, most ignorant polemics of the Reformation expanded by centuries of isolation from the Church and what she really teaches.

Now that is not to say all Protestants are like this--they are not. We have brethren here on this board that I would feel privileged to share faith with--and have. But I've also listened to many rants like you are hinting at--unless I miss my guess--and find that answering is akin to trying to penetrate a walled granite fortress covered with bronze sheeting.

In my limited experience--because I don't have any but my own--a simple answer is that the man does not even know what Catholicism is all about and we are best left to go our separate ways because while I am open to listening to him, he is obviously not open to listening to me.

In Christ,

Bob

The only things I personally can do to help the Catholic Church is: pray (in private & liturgically; receive the Holy Mysteries well and often;practice the virtues; keep the commandments; crave the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and live according to His fruits.

I'm persuaded I must have a correct knowledge of the doctrines of the Faith - that's one of the reason I'm on this forum: to learn.

I have to learn how to love my enemies; to bless and not to curse them (not so easy for me).

Under the umbrella of prayer: my prayer has to be sincere, it has to be for both the living and the departed; it must include the Holy Father and other leaders of the Church; the veneration, invocation and imitation of the Most Holy Theotokos, the holy angels and all the saints. For starters.

It all comes down to "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner"

If I do these things, with God's mercy, loving-kindness and assistance, then I will have improved the Catholic Church in some small way.

Sorry my friends, I disagree with you all.

I think there ought to be some sort YouTube Video explaining your faith and answering all the points the Protestants throw at you.

I've never met such a dangerous ignorant-driven bunch of people.

I told one fellow that I was Coptic Orthodox. He said that ALL denominations are from satan. Then he asked me "Oh.. what IS the Coptic Orthodox Church? I've never even heard of that".

What a bunch of lunatics.

For goodness sake.. can someone do us all a favour and just create a section on this website to answer these people?

I know we both have our little theological differences, but that's all they are: differences. we respect your Church tremendously.

Thanos, There are plenty of Catholic Apologetic Websites out there, example -Bible Christian society. Heres the problem, few people's minds are changed because most people want to believe what feels easiest to believe. And for many people what it is easy to believe is what the majority of media tells them.

I believe the real way to change peoples hearts is to show them what living as a Christian can be like.

Does anyone here know of any Evangelicals/Protestants that become Catholic?

Is it possible for someone to create a YouTube Video of their transition, explaining their reasoning and learning curve that lead them to the Catholic Church?

A 5 min video would be great. We can then create small powerpoint presentations after it explaining and answering all the points the Protestants seem to have problems with.

Dr. Scott Hahn is probably the most famous one. He has written many books on Catholic doctrine, scripture study and apologetics, but the book about his conversion is titled "Rome Sweet Home" [amazon.com] His website can be found at http://www.scotthahn.com/. This site features lots of free audio clips, but no videos.

Another well-known convert is Marcus Grodi, who hosts a weekly show on EWTN called The Journey Home [ewtn.com]. This page (from the EWTN website) does include some video clips, including links to some that are on YouTube.

This sounds like an ambitious project! I would suggest starting with some of the video links from "The Journey Home" (as well as doing some Google searches on "Catholic conversion," "Catholic apologetics," etc.). If you don't find just what you want, you might try contacting someone like Mr. Grodi and letting them know specifically what kind of conversion story you're looking for.

The important thing is to keep praying and trying to discern what God is leading you to do. May He bless your efforts!

Peace,
Deacon Richard
