Many programs in Byzantine churches have been creative in the use of playing off the word "Byzatine". The most popular is "Byzanteen" for the youth organizations in the church.

What others can you come up with? I will start...

ByzanTweens - to describe those kids 10-12 years old
ByzanTinies - for those kids younger than 10 years old
ByzanLeans - for a excercise and wieght watchers program in the church
ByzanGreens - Name of the church gardens

Your turn...

ByzanBeans - fasting soup, has no lard, hambone or bouillon.
ByzanScene - what is before your eyes wherever you look during Labor Day weekend at Otpust.
ByzanQueen - the parish matriarch in parishes without a married priest. Everyone asks her advice for everything, and her stinkeye is legendary.
ByzanWean - the process of training one's formerly Latin children to fast for longer periods before Liturgy.

How'd I do?

We started a Young Adults Ministry at Holy Angels Byzantine Catholic Church in San Diego called Byzantium on Brew. It's a take on Theology on Tap.

Of a woman who transferred canonically from the Latin Church to one of the Greek Catholic Churches, it was said she "got bizzy".

Some years ago, I worked for a large NJ Bank which happened to be in a lending relationship with our Eparchy. I sat in on a meeting where they were reviewing financial data of the Eparchy. The financial statements of a particular parish, which had borrowed money from the Bank under the Eparchy's line of credit, were brought up for review. The statements were not well-prepared, and impossible to understand. The Chief Credit Officer made a comment to the effect that "now I see why they are called "Byzantine"". I kept my peace.
