I came across an ad in the Catholic National Register weekly newspaper under Vocations that listed Exaltation of the Holy Cross Byzantine Catholic Monastery. It went on to describe it as "A new foundation in north-central Idaho based on traditional Athonite monasticism. Primitive living conditions. Serious inquiries invited. P.O. Box 64, Ferdinand, Idaho 83625". Does anyone in the Forum community know more about this to share?

I've been trying to find this out myself. I'll try and give them a call.

Stuart,

Idaho is within the geographic jurisdction of the Eparchy of the Holy Protection, but the monastery wasn't listed in the 2008 Official Catholic Directory, the most recent edition that I have, nor is it listed on the eparchial website. (I also checked St Nicholas in Chicago, to see if it was actually UGCC, but found no listing there either.)

It's hosted on the site of the local Dominican Third Order.

I recently received limited info on it in regard to the directory (nothing more than the info on the website). Its canonical jurisdiction was not cited and the means used for contact didn't afford an e-mail address for follow-up.

My guess, it may well be a fledgling looking for a nest (not the first). If anyone knows Father Irenaeus, indicated to be the acting superior, it would give a clue.

Many years,

Neil

Just to revisit this topic.

I was looking at the monastery site this weekend, happened to right click the photo of the priest (which I hadn't done previously) and discovered that the photo properties identify him as 'Father Logan'.

A friend previously suggested that the priest pictured bore resemblance to Father David Logan, a UGCC priest (Eparchy of Toronto), who served in a Van Nuys parish in the US Northwest several years ago. There is no listing for Father Logan in the US Catholic Directory (2008 ed) but, if he's incardinated to Toronto, I wouldn't expect one - and, I have no access to any current Canadian Catholic Directory.

Many years,

Neil

Father Logan had served at Saints Cyril & Methodius Byzantine Catholic Church in Spokane, WA. Perhaps contacting the church or St. John Chrysostom in Seattle would shed some light?
