The 2010 US Orthodox Census provides information on parishes and monastic communities, on church members and regular attendees in various American Orthodox Christian Churches. Data are available for each local Orthodox parish, each national Orthodox Church and for each geographic area of the United States.

Notably, our brethren of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese have, at 47%, the highest percentage of regular church-goers among all the canonical Eastern Orthodox Churches. Only HOCNA, among the EO, and the Copts and both Malankara Churches, among the OO, have higher percentages.

I don't understand why the data for the Oriental Orthodox Churches are being lumped with those of the Eastern Orthodox.

Clearly, these two groups are separate and distinct.

For an answer to that, you would have to contact the principal researcher, Alexei Krindatch.

LOL - good answer, Tom. Much better than any I was able to concoct.

Amado, my brother,

I'm always so glad when someone posts a topic that brings you out of the woodwork. My prayers that you're well, old friend.

Your question is certainly a good one. It's my impression that Alexei Krindatch is a SCOBA staffer, rather than that he is an employee of the Hartford Institute, and that he is merely summarizing (with some editorialization) the Orthodox data - not much differently than Father Roberson does with the AP data. Notably, he includes, as well as the OO data. the HOCNA stats. My guess, he thinks the EO bishops might like to compare the data of the other Orthodox Churches to their own (probably not something that made them happy, given that so much of the OO data had higher percentages) - but that's purely a guess.

Many years,

Neil

Dear Neil:

I am hanging in there! smile

I just thought Mr. Krindatch was not up front in his reporting.
