Mea culpa, I forgot to post the reminder yesterday, may the Lord's servant, + Pope John Paul II of recent memory, rest in peace and may his memory be eternal...

May the memory of the Lord's servant, Blessed John Paul II, be eternal

I had - and still have - the highest esteem for His Holiness, JP2.
I experienced the blessing of shaking his hand twice so since he's to be beatified in May, I reckon that makes me a 3rd. class relic of him. LOL
However I do wonder if anyone else on this forum thinks that maybe - just maybe - his beatification is being unreasonably "rushed through"? I mean, what's the hurry?

I was thinking along those same lines myself. I mean, what's the rush? Was he really so perfect? Wasn't he deceived by people like Marcial Maciel [ ncronline.org]? Yes, well, he was, but you don't have to be perfect to be a saint; you have to show heroic virtue (which Pope John Paul II did, in the face of so much adversity) and persevere till the end (which he did!). So, since I think everyone fundamentally agrees that Pope John Paul II is a saint, why wait? Santo subito! For once, this year I will definitely be celebrating May Day! ;-)

If you take a little stroll with me down Memory Lane, we'll revisit the fact that May 1st. used to be a big deal in Soviet-occupied Lithuania.
How deliciously ironic that the beatification of the man who contributed so much to the dismantlement and downfall of that TRULY evil empire will be beatified on that very day.
Works for me. Ramybe su mumis.

May 1st is the old communist May Day. May 1st is also Divine Mercy Sunday. The symbolism of the now departed Soviet Union being replaced by Divine Mercy is pretty powerful. And very significant in the life of the late Holy Father. A program of events has been posted by EWTN. http://www.ewtn.com/vnews/getstory.asp?number=112498

The original Divine Mercy image was painted under St. Faustyna's direction, in Vilnius, which at the time was occupied by Poland. It has been restored & is now enshrined there. check out: http://www.gailestingumas.lt/ to make a virtual visit to the shrine (the site has English language pages).
