I was wondering if someone could enlighten me about this. I was having a discussion with someone on FB about apostolic succession. I was citing the Roman and Orthodox bishops and I noticed Patriarch Dionysius IV Muselimes Bishop of Constantinople. I was surprised because Muselimes means "The Muslim". This was in the 17 century and I know that the Orthodox Church was suffering under Islam. I tried to find more information about him and little exists (other than he was elected 5 times to the office and disposed each time). Is the Muselimes referring to his ethnicity? Or am I missing something completely? If anyone can shed any light on this please do!
