Hi So I'm very sad because I missed the Easter Divine Liturgy this morning Last night I went to the Easter Vigil at a Roman Catholic parish, - and it was very long because it was the Latin Mass, - and I was supposed to get up to get ready for DL at 4:30 am... (the liturgy is very early). However, I didn't even hear the alarm clock lol. I'm quite sad that I missed it because I was really going to go! I'm going to the Easter Mass at the Roman Catholic church at 10:30 though, and I went to the Vigil. My question is.. I went to a Catholic church for Easter, but not to an Eastern Catholic church.. and I'm Eastern Catholic... have I sinned?? is it not a sin because I meant to go, and I didn't actually choose to miss it? if I had chosen to miss it, would it be a sin then? or is this never sinful provided I go to a Catholic church? thank you!

Christ is risen!
I should leave this for a priest to answer... but for what it's worth, my understanding is that you have certainly not sinned. Eastern Catholics can celebrate Easter in a Roman Catholic church, just as Roman Catholics can celebrate Pascha in an Eastern Catholic church. There is no sin at all in this.

I agree with Latin Catholic. At the end of the day, a Catholic church is a Catholic church.

Christ is Risen!! Indeed He is Risen!!
I agree with our brethren--a Catholic church is a Catholic church. You have celebrated the Resurrection--rejoice.
I'm curious as to what parish you attended because I can't imagine a Latin Catholic parish celebrating in Latin on this great Feast. Are you sure it wasn't a group that merely calls itself Catholic?
In any event, rejoice that with the Resurrection the grave is not the end; only the beginning.
In Christ,
Bob

If anyone has labored from the first hour, Let them today receive the just reward. If anyone has come at the third hour, With thanksgiving let them feast. If anyone has arrived at the sixth hour, Let them have no misgivings; For they shall suffer no loss. If anyone has delayed until the ninth hour, Let them draw near without hesitation. If anyone has arrived even at the eleventh hour, Let them not fear on account of tardiness.
For the Master is gracious and receives the last even as the first; He gives rest to him that comes at the eleventh hour, Just as to him who has labored from the first. He has mercy upon the last and cares for the first; To the one He gives, and to the other He is gracious. He both honors the work and praises the intention.

My question is.. I went to a Catholic church for Easter, but not to an Eastern Catholic church.. and I'm Eastern Catholic... have I sinned?? No. Catholic is Catholic. Rite doesn't matter. is it not a sin because I meant to go, and I didn't actually choose to miss it? if I had chosen to miss it, would it be a sin then? You didn't have to go at all. Easter Vigil liturgy is enough to fulfill the obligation. and it was very long because it was the Latin Mass
I can't imagine a Latin Catholic parish celebrating in Latin on this great Feast. I've attended a Pauline (Novus Ordo) Easter Vigil, and it took about two and a half hours with the prescribed minimum of four readings. My friend was on an Latin Easter Vigil (I think they use the 1962 Missal) - three hours forty minutes.
