Every day I enter the forum I have to re-login when I use Firefox, which is a minor annoyance given that Firefox is able to store password and login information.

But there's a greater annoyance - after every login all posts are marked as unread, so my "Forum list" view looks like this:
[Linked Image]
etc.

Which makes being aware of what's going on the forum a bit hard.

Has anybody had similar problem? Any clues?

I use Firefox 4.0 under Vista.

Under Google Chrome everything is OK.

I use Firefox and don't have this problem. It's probably in your settings.
In the dropdown menu under "Tools" click on "Options."
Then click on "Privacy". In the "History" section be sure that "remember History" is selected on this dropdown menu.

THEN:
AGAIN, in the dropdown munue under "Tools" click on "Security"
Then be sure that "Remember passwords" is checked.

I'm still using Firefox 3.6 but the options in 4.0 should be very similar.

It's also possible that at some point you told Firefox either to not allow cookies for this site or to not remember your login for this site. Check the lists for both of these options as well.

History is enabled, passwords are remembered. I suspect it has something to do with cookies. I use the default settings - cookies are accepted and held as long as they are valid. When I browse through the byzcath.org cookies they're valid "until end of session". I'll try to experiment with the cookies settings.

When I've had this kind of problem, I do this:

TOOLS --> OPTIONS --> PRIVACY --> EXCEPTIONS

Sort the list by STATUS and remove all sites that are marked as either "Blocked" or "Allow for Session." Then, when you log back into this site, select "Allow" -- not "Allow for Session." If you only allow cookies for a particular session, the next time you return, the browser won't remember you.

It's kind of a nuisance to delete all those that you've already blocked, but you really have to, because there's no telling what cookie is the key. Also, clearing the list does no harm; you'll simply have to block them again as you re-visit each site.

Hope this helps.

I have this problem very occasionally (maybe once a month on average), in both IE and Firefox, even though I'm logged in permanently to the site (it happened last night). I've always assumed that it was a software/server fluke. Perhaps John or Fr Anthony can elaborate on that possibility.

Many years,

Neil

I have logged in and out a few times and removed all cookies from byzcath.org a few times. So far the problem hasn't occured again.
