I have just loaded up the application, which will give you the readings of the day and the variable parts of the Divine Liturgy on your Android phone or tablet.
They are available in Arabice, English, French, Indonesian, and Portuguese.
You can find it here [market.android.com] .

Better you than me. I had one for 10 days and my sister thought she was going to have to "hospitalize" me. And I'm not tech phobic. I've since been told it, a Cliq2, is lousy. I've been on a Sidekick since forever (THE phone of the Deaf world of which I'm a member, tho not deaf myself but surrounded by) and the provider is cutting that platform out so we all have to upgrade to something different. Things I could do in one step on the SK took three or 4 steps on the Cliq2. And if I looked at it it did things that I couldn't figure out what had happened. Much time with tech support, luckily they were very good, and then ultimately shipped back.

So I've ordered the new SK which is also an android. Here's hoping I'll be inspired by such as this app to like having an android. I just need to know I can email my deaf boss in a flash as I've been doing for years.

I downloaded it and I'm having a time zone issue. I am in Alaska, and when I opened the app this morning at 11:30am AST, on 05/10/11, the app was pulling information for 05/11/11. Are there any plans to adjust for time zone differences, or should I just make sure to open the app early in the morning to get the current date's readings? I had this problem with the app on my iPod too, which is why I got rid of it.

Sorry about that! It's been hard to design an app that is used all over the world. (In fact, we have users regularly viewing the readings from all corners of the globe, including the US Military [i.e., deployed overseas].)

The readings get sent out -- and the RSS feed updated -- at about 06.05 (i.e., in the morning) UTC (or GMT). The readings are sent for the next calendar day; most of our readers asked to get the readings early, so that they could pray and meditate in preparation for the coming day.

At the moment 6 am UTC is 10 pm of the previous day in Anchorage. But in New Zealand, in summer time, it is already 7 pm (of the day after the one in Anchorage!).

The readings will stay in the app's cache for quite a while, so if you look at the readings ahead of time, but want to use them on their correct liturgical day, they will always be available.

I am constrained by the RSS protocol and the application design that uses it at the moment. In the future, I hope to have an app, in which you can choose the date that interests you, and the readings and prayers will be available. However, it will be a bigger app (it must contain all the readings), and I'll have to seek copyright permission because of the quantity of any single translation, so it will be an expensive venture. frown

At the moment, I'd suggest looking at the readings any time before 10 pm your time, and then you'll have them on the device for the next day. Just scroll down and you will find them.

I am keen for any advice or requests for version 2. So if you have any, please let me know. I'll take the request for a timezone-appropriate version as suggestion No. 1. smile

I will make sure to pull the readings before 10pm. :-) Knowing the time difference makes it easy to remember to check the night before.

I've been having- "issues" with my android, which may be the reason why the app is not storing the readings from the day before. I will have to play with the settings. Thanks for the advice.

Thank you for developing this! I love having the readings avaiable in such an accessible form This way I can read them on my morning commute.
