It is distinguished from cheirotoneia (major ordination) by where it occurs (cheirotoneia behind the iconostasis, cheirothesia before the Royal Doors) and when it occurs in the Divine Liturgy (cheirothesia before the Little Entrance, cheirotoneia after the Great Entrance), and the prayers that are used in each rite.
