Please join me in praise and thanksgiving to Almighty God for the ordination to the permanent diaconate of 14 men for the archdiocese of Los Angeles, including this unworthy servant.

May God guard us and keep us. May He make the ministry of all my brother deacons fruitful and acceptable to His Infinite Majesty.

Blessed be God forever!

Shalom,
Deacon Memo

Axios.

But let's stop calling it the "permanent diaconate", as though the order is bifurcated. The diaconate is the diaconate, an order in its own right, with its own charism. If some men are selected to advance from the diaconate to the presbyterate, well and good. But their diaconate is no different from that of the men who choose to remain within that order. Until the Latin Church gets over its artificial division of the diaconate into "permanent" and "transitional" deacons, the dignity and integrity of the order will never fully be restored.

I agree. A deacon is a deacon is a deacon.

Thank you all for your prayers and your kind words.

Shalom,
Memo
