I would like feedback on the question of how the Latin diocese can help the Eastern Catholic eparchy, parish and parishioner preserve and strengthen the ties with his particular Church. You may mention suggestions and comments in general although I particularly appreciate those on a practical level. I am writing a research paper for a master's level program which focuses on the relationship of the Latin Church with the Eastern Catholic Churches on a pastoral level. Any suggestions you make will be helpful.

1. Admit Eastern Catholic children to Communion when presented.

2. Admit Eastern Catholic children to parochial schools at the parish rate without requiring them to register in the parish.

3. Do not enroll Eastern Catholic children attending parochial schools in Confirmation classes, nor present them to the bishop for Confirmation.

4. Do not preside over the marriage of a Roman Catholic and an Eastern Catholic without first consulting the Code of Canons and the cognizant Eastern Catholic hierarch.

5. Do have your confirmation classes attend the Divine Liturgy (or the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts during Lent) to become familiar with the rites of the Eastern Churches.

6. Do refer to the Eastern Catholic Churches, and not to the "Eastern rites of the Roman Catholic Church".

7. Do have your priests and bishops affirm the ancient practice of the Christian East in ordaining married men to the presbyterate.

8. When an Eastern Catholic community is in need of worship space, do allow them to celebrate the Liturgy in your church until they have a place of their own.

9. Do try to educate the laity from the pulpit, to minimize the "Are you sure you guys are Catholic?" effect.

10. Accept us for who and what we are, and not for what you think we ought to be.

Kudos, Stuart. Well said!

Amen.
Implementing these would involve a paradigmatic change about people's notions of the nature of "church". Some categories of Catholics might not be ready or even ever able to embrace that. Maybe in time and by God's grace, it will happen.

I think that #6 is especially important. I know that in our RCIA classes, the Eastern Churches are just given a mention. Many don't even really realize the Eastern Churches exist. Since the Latin Rite is so focused on uniformity, I think that basic catechesis of adults coming into the Church as well as children should have instruction in the Eastern Churches from the get-go, and not as an after-thought some small groups in the Church.
