Ephiphany of Our Lord in Annandale that Deacon El invited you to is very warm and inviting. I recommend it though it is hard to get to. Don't let the construction stop you.

The Ukrainian GC parish is at the Shrine close to CUA and the Basilica and accessible by Metro. However, other than the scheduled liturgies it is hard to make contact with them.

I've decided to revert to Greek Catholic because the term Byzantine Catholic is essentially meaningless--particularly as it is used only by one Church which has only tenuous associations with Byzantium. The Greek in "Greek Catholic" refers to the Greek or Byzantine-Orthodox rite employed by those Catholic Churches, and as every Eastern Catholic Church of the Byzantine-Orthodox rite calls it self Greek Catholic, I find the uniformity of nomenclature minimizes confusion.

And at Holy Transfiguration, Greek is employed in the Liturgy together with English and Arabic. At Epiphany of Our Lord, you will find the Liturgy celebrated primarily in English together with Slavonic.

I sort of knew what he meant, but was not sure why it came up, so thought he might have been trying to say something else. Melkite liturgy is mostly Arabic in Israel, English in the US, Spanish in...places that speak Spanish.

Glory to Jesus Christ,

Stuart's comment about Eastern Church using "Greek" or "Byzantine" is partially true.

Of the ten Eastern Catholic Churches using the Byzantine or Greek rite, six have the word “Byzantine” and four have the word “Greek” in their official title, according to Annuario Pontifico.

The Melkite Greek Catholic Church (Patriarchate)
The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (Major Archepiscopate)
The Ruthenian Byzantine Catholic Church (Metropolitanate in USA)
The Romanian Greek Catholic Church (Major Archepiscopate)
The Greek Byzantine Catholic Church
The Bulgarian Byzantine Catholic Church
The Slovak Greek Catholic Church (Metropolitanate)
The Italo-Albanian Byzantine Catholic Church
The Hungarian Byzantine Catholic Church
The Albanian Byzantine Catholic Church

Shlomo AOPC,

I know that you asked for Byzantine Churches, but there are a couple of non-Byzantine Churches that are very welcoming. If you are interested I will post their information here for you.

Holy TRANSFIGURATION...sorry about that, not sure where I got "Transformation", I'm not one for "The Transformers". Freudian slip? More than meets the eye?...regardless, I can't see to contact you directly as a new-b to the list; perhaps you can mail me and THEN I can respond and we'll make arrangements to meet there accordingly perhaps next week. Deacon El,

13 using the Rite: 14, if one includes the Georgians, of blessed memory; 15, if one includes the Macedonians, whom the AP now lists distinctly from the Croats.

You left out the Russians, Belarusians, Croatians, Macedonians, and the Georgians.

Many years,

Neil

I've not had any difficulty in the dozen or so times I have visited the DC area, especially considering the seminary is basically next door. There is also Holy Trinity UGCC in Silver Spring, constructed in a traditional wooden Hustul style, which celebrates according to the Julian Calendar: http://holytrinitypucc.org

Have not visited there in quite some time but you may wish also to check out the Monastery of the Holy Cross and its superb bookstore.
