There is a lot of info on eastern theology but I have seen much on spiritual discipline. Can anyone suggest where I can find some info on this? I am a RC visiting EC church and interested in what a fully orthodox life might look like from the discipline side.

The Orthodox Way by Bishop Kallistos is a good place to begin.

A place to start in contemplating this question is the fact that it's all about GOD and not directly about "ME". Thus it's never going to pander to our egos. This is so abt. the internal and external disciplines practiced by both Orthodox and ECs. Latinizations introduced over time IMO have diluted it a bit for many ECs but full observance is recommended.

Most of us ECs are in the process of de-latinization. My impression is that's what modern Popes have been encouraging us to do.

That's why I almost always tell interested people (usually Latin Catholics) that being an EC is in many ways usually more demanding than it looks on the surface. At least it oughtta be.

Dave:

Here's a piece of advice I found in my reading that I copied and have on a card to remind me of what's important. No matter what discipline one uses, this seems to apply.

Prayer, fasting, vigils, and all other Christian practices, however good they may be in themselves, certainly do not constitute the aim of our Christian life: they are but the indispensible means of attaining them.

FOR THE TRUE AIM OF THE CHRISTIAN LIFE IS THE ACQUISTIION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD.

As for fasts, vigils, prayer, and almsgiving, and other good works done in the name of the Christ, they are only the means of acquiring the Holy Spirit of God. Note well that it is only good works done in the name of Christ that bring us the fruits of the Spirit.

St. Seraphim of Sarov
