I'm afraid this will be lost here in the Town Hall section.... but anyway...

I received a mailing from the Orientale Lumen Foundation today. If you've been involved at all with Orientale Lumen Conferences you'll know that Forum member Jack Figel has personally covered the large deficit for these conferences for years. This cannot continue and the letter is saying 2011 may have been the last conference if the current loss cannot be covered (and ideally some seed money for the next conference).

For all of you who listened to the Plenary sessions for free on Ancient Faith Radio please consider an appropriate donation to Orientale Lumen Foundation for those. At the time of the 2011 Conference I sent Orientale Lumen Foundation $50 because that was the amount they originally asked for when they were planning to offer live web coverage for the first time to those who couldn't get to the conference. I will be making another contribution.

They are looking to recoup at least $4000 still owed for this conference mostly the cost of travel for the speakers. A donation of $100 or more they will give you a free CD or DVD of Met. Kallistos, or Fr. Taft. Donate here. [olconference.com]

The letter is signed by Met. Jonah "Orthodox C0-Patron", Bishop John Michael "Romanian Catholic Church Catholic Co-Patron, and Marlene McCracken "OL Conference Participant.

OL XVI Conference June 18-21 in D.C. if funding is secured to cover it.

My experience at the OL 2008 Conference was life changing for me. The fact we have ongoing access to all the plenary session from 2011 has been really a huge gift. I encourage you to consider contributing to this important ecumenical work.

Brothers and Sisters,
"Be not afraid!"
Yesterday I received my letter from Metropolitan Jonah and Bishop John Michael [co-patrons of the OL Conferences] It was not all doom and gloom; it was rather straight forward. For the past fifteen years, our friend, Jack Figel, has been carrying a big financial load by himself. He can't do it by himself anymore; we need to step up to help.
If we want to advance the ecumenical dialogue between the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, we need to do our part. For many of us that has been to come to the conferences as we were able. Now we need to dig in our pockets and come up with some dollars to pay off the past debts, and set aside some money in the Orientale Lumen Foundation for future conferences.
Please, mark your calendars now for June 18 - 21, 2012 for the OL XVI Conference, in Washington, DC, (if we can find the financing to pay for it.)
Then help make the Conference a reality by sending what you can. You can even donate on line by going to http://olconference.com/OL_Donate.html to make a secure donation.
