As has been my practice over the years as each Church(es) start their liturgical years I wish them Happy New Years. So to my Byzantine Brothers and Sisters; Happy New Years. This is the year 7519 από κτίσεως κόσμου, apo ktiseos kosmou, "since the world's creation") on September 1st.

I had the joy of bringing a car load of young men to the vigil at "my" Russian Orthodox parish- one Latin Catholic, one UGCC, two Antiochian Orthodox, and me, "Mom", Russian Greek Catholic. grin Great way to begin the year. It was a very beautiful, and very intimate, vigil. I think we constituted almost half of the faithful gathered.

Father mentioned this as we were chatting outside after the service, the Anno Domini dating system was devised hundreds of years after Christ's death and resurrection.
