Hello
I am Janet Vuksta James, the great daughter to Most Rev Joseph Hanulya. My dad, Michael Vuksta (son of Mary Hanulya Vuksta) speaks very highly of him, his grandfather! We are happy to share any info. We have the blue book, The Eastern Ritual from 1950. We probably have other items and pictures!

Do to have the history of the Pittsburgh Exarchate (Greek Catholic Diocese) he prepared in the 1950s? It was mentioned in the commemorative booklet for his 60th anniversary of his ordination. No one can find it in the Pittsburgh Byzantine Chancery.

I found something that might be of interest. It's on legal paper typed titled: The catholic eastern churches the history. It was sent from my dads aunt Martha. The letter says uncle Mitchell typed it for rev. Hanulya and that bishop elko has the original. Email me at janetj100@aol.com

Dear Folks: I'm afraid that it has been quite a while since the last time I was here. And, yes, I am still chipping away at my Family Tree. IIRC we were discussing Rev Emil I Burik but I don't remember if anyone ever identified the person in the photograph as that person. Can we try again?
Best Wishes,
Bruce

Bruce,
Welcome back! Let me point the resurgence of this thread out to a couple of folk who might be able to identify the priest. Give me a day or two.
Many years,
Neil

I am extending a heartfelt Thanks to everyone who has shown interest in helping me with my Emil Burik question. God, in fact, Does answer prayers as I uncovered a privately published book about St John's that I thought had been lost quite sometime ago. It is only 34 pages long but is photo-heavy. One of the older phots references Fr Burik and provides that he was pastor from December 19th, 1919 when he acquired the land for $24,500USD until his death on Christmas, 1943. This period certainly covers the First Communion picture I have and answers my question.
I don't know if this book is still available. The face page is dated 1979 and states "This limited edition publication was produced especially for St John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church - Bayonne, New Jersey by Custombook, Inc., The Custom Building, So. Hackensack, NJ. 07606. I am contemplating surendering the book to my scanner so that I can make this item available to others at no charge. Gotta think about that a bit.....
Best Wishes,
Bruce
