DT - thanks so much for this post - I'm always eager to hear good recordings of the DL. I was quite surprised by the clarity of this recording, and will share some excerpts with the burgeoning choir in my parish.

I thought the recording very interesting as it contains some arrangements I've not heard before. I particularly liked the arrangement for the Creed (at the end of the first track).

Indeed - I've been exposed to a lot of choral work typically done in the Ruthenian parishes over the years, and there were several settings that were new and appealing to me (the Creed rendering does certainly stick out among them). I look forward to sharing this resource with others who cherish our liturgical music tradition.

I have never heard that version of "The Angel Cried" and it is really great. It is on the second track, beginning at 6:50. Anybody familiar with it?

Personally, you cannot beat parish recordings like this. I actually prefer them to more professional recordings because it gives you a flavor of parish worship.

Personally, I find the variety one finds in different parishes enriching. That's one reason I dislike the concept of mandated melodies as too stifling.

Just listening to "We Praise You..." again. The use of a soprano there kind of reminds me of Rachmaninoff's rendition of the same piece.

Mr. Kalvin wrote many of his own arrangements. They are still used today by the choir at St. Mary Magdalene in Fairview Park, Ohio.
