I have been working on the Ukrainian Cyrillic alphabet, but when trying to learn some basic Ukrainian phrases for the Divine Liturgy, I'm not sure what resources to use.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have books that will teach me how to be a tourist in Ukraine, but that's not what I need, LOL.

If you get hold of the Divine Liturgy : An Anthology for Worship from the Sheptitsky Institute in Ottowa scroll down this page [sheptytskyinstitute.ca] you will find a couple of sample pages. A lot of the content is in English but the Liturgy is also , in one section, in Ukrainian [ L hand page ] and English [ Right hand page ].

This will help you get to grips with the responses - if you can set your Keyboard to type in Ukrainian Cyrillic , you could then put the phrases into Google Translate and pick up the pronunciation that way .

Honestly the best way of learning the responses to the Liturgy is listening to a good careful speaker and repeating them to him till he is satisfied with your attempts. If your teacher is as particular as mine - it will be hard work wink

I agree entirely with OLS. The Anthology for Worship is an excellent resource. But getting a recording of the DL is also an excellent way of learning. The recordings of Roman Hurko will help immensely in this regard.

You can get a recording of the Divine Liturgy on www.oltv.tv [oltv.tv] this is where I go. I have a transliterated version sent to me by a Deacon in America so I must make do with that and it's very good too.

Thanks everyone! I am pretty good with the alphabet now, so I will move on to practicing with video and a text in front of me.
