Obituary: Deacon Paul Humniski
FATHER DEACON PAUL HUMNISKI Peacefully passed away with family and friends by his side on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at West Park Health Care Centre at the age of 70. Beloved husband of Irene (nee Skremetka) and loving father to Anne-Marie (Andre), Johnathan, Stephen and Christina (Andrew). Loving grandfather to Collin, Sophia, Mikyta and Julian. Survived by brothers Frank (Diane) in Winnipeg and Greg (Rose) in Edmonton and mother-in-law Stella Skremetka. We are certain he has joined his loving mother, Stefa and brave father, Mike (who predeceased his son by 12 hours) in heaven.
Born in North End Winnipeg in 1941, he attended Sisler High School and the University of Manitoba where he obtained his B.Sc., B.A., M.Sc. in microbiology and Ph.D. in biochemistry and avidly played football throughout. He was married in 1968 and was blessed with four loving children. In Ontario, he completed his MBA in London and was ordained to the deaconate in 1981. He worked in sales at Glaxo Laboratories. He was then inspired to open Baba's Kitchens, a business specializing in Ukrainian foods that excelled over 10 years.
Although he was hospitalized for the past 3.5 years, Paul and Irene remained positive and continued to find joy in daily life. During this journey, God granted Paul and Irene a renewed sense of strength and love in the Joy of the Lord.
Friends will be received at St. Elias Ukrainian Catholic Church, 10193 Heritage Road, Brampton, for prayers on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 from 4:00 - 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Elias Catholic Church on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.
We sincerely thank everyone who provided physical and spiritual support throughout his journey. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Pysanka Orphanage in Ukraine.
