I was reading the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops document "Disciples Called to Witness: The New Evangelization". I like the part that says "The rich traditions of prayers, liturgy, and devotions such as Akathistos, Paraklesis, and Molebens of our Eastern Catholic Church are a great grace and blessing. The desire of returning Catholics to reconnect with their cultural devotional practices should be encouraged and fostered, as it presents an opportunity to invite them into a prayerful relationship with God."

As regards the awareness of the Eastern Catholic Churches, it seems that even today it is painfully low. I just left a regrettable thread discussion on another forum where the Eastern Catholic Churches were referred to as "the competition" by a fellow Catholic.

It is ironic that this subject and that characterization was offered on this day, the 17th anniversary of the release of Orientale Lumen. I guess someone turned the light off!
