Holy Resurrection used to be Byzantine Ruthenian but were not, shall we say, welcomed with us. So they affiliated with another Eastern Catholic group. Now to add to the twist, the Roman Catholics embrace, or at least visit them. Still, they are a wonderful blessing to the world. I plan to visit sometime this summer. Our young people have already visited and occasionally a monk makes an appearance at our church.

Holy Resurrection used to be Byzantine Ruthenian but were not, shall we say, welcomed with us. I had heard this along the way. Do you have any insight as to why they changed affiliations? This seems like such a very nice community, and I cannot image why any Eastern Catholic Church would not welcome them with open arms ...

Another interesting visit was also mentioned on the Holy Resurrection Monastery link. In order to promote more encounters between Catholic and Orthodox Monastics, Fr. Abbot Nicholas was able to organize for His Beatitude Metropolitan Jonah to be the main speaker at the Annual American Benedictine Abbots’ Workshop at Saint Joseph’s Abbey, Covington, Louisiana on February 10-14, 2012. Most Reverend Notker Wolf OSB, the Abbot-Primate from Rome was also in attendance.With Metropolitan Jonah’s experience as a contemporary, monastic founder, he was an instant hit with the abbots.

Christ is Risen! Carson, I'm thankful for the stories of your young people visiting Holy Resurrection in Wisconsin, as there are those of us who are Ruthenians in San Diego miss visiting when they were in California. There are even Monastic Associates [ hrmonline.org] of HRM who are part of their former jurisdiction. The reason why this is so, is that fondness for monasticism extends beyond jurisdictions, and ultimately our Bishops are still in communion with each other, despite changes of jurisdiction. Christ the Bridegroom Monastery is also a Ruthenian group of female monastics who have visited Holy Resurrection (you can read more about their visit here [ christthebridegroom.blogspot.com] ), so I think this broader context underscores that it's not a matter of Romans and non-Ruthenians appreciating the vocation of HRM.
