As I am discerning a call to the East, I am trying to think, how can one try and accept one set of theologumen over another? I mean, I personally like the Eastern theologumen, but how can I also accept another theologumen? One thing that makes it easier with the EO is that there is one set of theologumen.

Any advice? Does my question even make sense?

A theologoumenon (pl. theologoumena) is an opinion which is not raised to the level of a dogma - there are lots of them but I had not previously encountered the concept of a set of theologoumena, though it would be vaguely possible to construct such a set, I suppose.

But to respond to your question: by definition, nobody is required to accept any theologoumenon.

Thanks!

So technically, I could deny the why's and how's of Purgatory (as the why's and how's are only theological schools of thought), and still be a faithful Catholic?
