There is an article in the USCCB's website in which Byzcath readers may be interested regarding the selection of Catholic archbishops, bishops and the interesting section on coadjutors. How bishops are selected [usccb.org]

It's like sausage--you don't want to look too closely at the process. It spoils the appetite.

Hey, I like kolbasi! I don't care how they make it.

Seriously, many people are mystified (not positively) by the selection of Eastern Catholic bishops. Whether justified or not, it gives insight on the Roman Catholic process as presented by the Roman patriarchal office (of which eastern catholics belong.)

Certainly this knowledge is important to understand; in a sense it shows that we aren't discriminated against, for the Latin Rite Church follows the same process. I've always heard that our eparchies submit three names; perhaps we are shortchanging ourselves with a self imposed limit?? With a longer list we could possible shorten our own selection time for future vacancies.

Regardless, its worth a read and its way more accurate than the bits and pieces which I read on this forum.
