I did a quick search through the forums and could not find evidence that this issue has been discussed before.

The Romanian Orthodox Church canonically exists in the Americas as evidenced here:

http://www.romarch.org/

The OCA has something called a Romanian diocese evidenced here:

http://oca.org/dioceses/romanian-episcopate

Can anyone tell me how and why this happened and is there any reason for the OCA Romanian diocese to exist today?

I think I can be of some help.

The Romanian Episcopate OCA was a large group of Romanians who did not want to be under the communists and so sought refuge with the Russian Metropolia. The other group was under the patriarch of Romania and was communist influenced. Now that Romania is free of communism, they are trying to unite but like many things it may take some time...church politics.

If someone knows more, please correct me if I am wrong or wants to add more info.

I served with Archbishop Nathaniel and Bishop Irinej a couple of times. I loved the services.

John
