Nelson, I assure you that soon you will shortly be fasting from uninterrupted sleep for far longer than a mere forty days.

Nelson, prayers for your wife and young Noah, who is expected on the same day as my first grandchild's birth biggrin

Our son, Noah, was born yesterday at 9:09 p.m. Mom and son are doing great. He's a pro at nursing. We should be home on Monday morning.

(Adapted from the 1979 Book of Common Prayer)

Pastor:

Dear Friends:

The birth of a child is a joyous and
solemn occasion in the life of a family. It is also an occasion for rejoicing in the Christian community. I bid you, therefore to join Nelson in giving thanks to Almighty God our heavenly Father, the Lord of all life, for the gift of Mark to be his son. Let us sing together:

CANTICLE OF MARY Magnificat

THE PRAYERS

Pastor: Let us pray:

O God, you have taught us through your blessed Son that whoever receives a little child in the name of Christ receives Christ himself: We give thanks for the blessing you havebestowed upon this family in giving them a child. Confirm their joy by a lively sense of your presence with them, and give them calm strength and patient wisdom as they seek to bring this child to love all that is true and noble, just and pure, lovable and gracious, excellent and admirable, following the example of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
PEOPLE: Amen

Pastor:

O gracious God, we give you humble and hearty thanks that you have preserved through the pain and anxiety of child-birth your servant who desires now to offer you her praises and thanksgivings. Grant, mostChrist our Lord.
PEOPLE: Amen.

Pastor:

O eternal God, you have promised to be a father to a
thousand generations of those who love and fear you: Bless this child and preserve his life; receive him and enable him to receive you, that through the Sacrament of Baptism he may become the child of God; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
PEOPLE: Amen.

May God grant Noah many blessed years in health and happiness and may he know the grandchildren of his children's children.

Congratulations to Nelson and his wife!
