Eternal memory in blessed repose to the servant of God, the Most Eminent Lord Carlo Cardinal Martini, quondam Metropolitan Archbishop of Milan, peerless scholar of the Holy Scriptures ... ! O good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Lord!

Thank you for posting this. May his memory be eternal! I am saddened by our loss. He was a giant of the Faith.

Regardless of one's opinion of the late Cardinal Martini, we should be saying prayers for the repose of his soul.
I am disappointed to see that this thread is becoming another round of "look what's wrong with the Roman church".
Best to lock this thread.

Best to lock this thread. It ought not to be news to anyone who has posted here for more than a brief while (and that includes most anyone who has posted to this thread) that editorializing on the life of prominent clergy whose death is posted in the 'News' forum is highly discouraged. In effect, the thread is treated as if it were a thread in the Prayer forum - in which we observe the aphorism De mortuis nihil nisi bonum. Find a place elsewhere on the site to post opinions or commentary! The thread will not be locked, but any further discussion regarding the late Cardinal which is not in the nature of a prayer had best be posted to another thread. Otherwise, it will be edited or deleted - as have been those to date - both pro and con! May the memory of the Lord's servant, the High Priest Carlo, be eternal!

Please overlook the printer's devil that carried over the last vowel of the late Cardinal Archbishop of Milan's first name to his surname. He was, of course, Cardinal Martini, S.J.
