Dear Forum Members,
Glory be to Jesus Christ!

I've been trying to do some reasearch on the Ukrainian Catholic Basilian Fathers and thought some here might be in the know:

1. Do they-or some-still consider themselves as monks?
2. Do they ever wear the monastic mantle(mantiya) and klobuk/koukoulion? (as, I have seen pictures of St. Josaphat with these on). Or, do they only wear a modern westernized habit now? I saw a picture of a monastic profession where the picture said it was a Basilian, and he was wearing the monastic mantle and koukoulion, but, I could not verify for sure if this was a Basilian.
3. Does anyone know of where I may learn(read) about the history and details of their order?

Thank You!

Good questions there. This is something I'll have to study carefully. St. Josaphat has a retreat day coming up in another couple of weeks (less than that now), so maybe I'll learn more about this during that. Should be worth finding out about this.

The best place to start in English is here: Basilian Order of St. Josaphat [stnicholaschurch.ca].

There are plenty of links to go through. Also, the following links are in Ukrainian, but if you have Google Translate, they are automatically translated to understandable English:

Basilians of Ukraine [osbm.in.ua]
Basilian Monks of the St. Nicholas Monastery in Mukachevo, Ukraine [osbm-mukachevo.org.ua]
Basilians of Poland [bazylianie.pl]

Hope it helps.
