Archbishop Tikhon elected Primate of the OCA after the second round of voting this afternoon. See article here. [oca.org]

Axios indeed. In my humble opinion Archbishop Tikhon is an authentic monastic. When I was a student at St. Tikhon's, back in the day, Fr. Tikhon was still a monk - one of my Instructors in Old Testament. He also taught me to chant and put the services together from the kleiros. A more meek individual you would be hard pressed to find. I believe he will provide a calm to the Holy Synod and the OCA in these troubled times.

It is interesting that the new Metropolitan is also a convert from the Episcopal Church.

Metropolitan Jonah was also a convert. Orthodoxy in the U.S. is becoming a convert-driven phenomenon. This is causing tensions between the converts and the ethnics, the latter frequently having a more rigorous approach to Orthodoxy combined with an evangelical zeal that a lot of ethnics find off-putting.

Yes, it is causing tension; I see this as a good thing. Having grown up ethnic and initially leaving the Orthodox Church due in some measure to the off-putting nationalism of my home parish and overall ignorance of what comprised the faith, the influx of converts has at the very least challenged many "cradle" to learn of what their faith consists. Converts insure the Church will in time truly become a Church for Americans as the Church is for the Ukrainians, Russians, etc., in their native coutries. I will never forget an "ethnic" say to a convert they could never be Orthodox because they were not born Orthodox from an Orthodox country; and still converts are coming into the Church.
