2012 is the 125th anniversary of SS. Peter and Paul Greek Catholic Church of Jersey City, NJ, the oldest Eastern Rite Catholic in the state. It was founded in 1887 and in its early years was a joint venture between Ukrainians and Rusyns. One of its founders was a Lemko, Pavlo Filak, from the village of Luhy, Gorlice District (present-day Poland). He worked in a sugar factory "11 hours a day for 14 cents an hour."
