Laurie Paffhausen, the sister of His Beatitude Jonah died peacefully in her sleep. May her Memory be Eternal!

Laurie Paffhausen, the younger sister and only sibling of Metropolitan Jonah, fell asleep in the Lord in hospital after a lengthy illness on Sunday morning, November 18, 2012.

Services at:

St. Nicholas Cathedral

3500 Massachusetts Ave., Washington, D.C, NW, Washington, DC 20007

Tuesday 20 November Funeral Service at 7pm

Wednesday 21 November Divine Liturgy at 10am followed by a funeral procession from the cathedral to and Litia [burial verses] and Burial at Rock Creek Cemetery.

May God grant her rest in place of brightness, a place of refreshment, a place of repose, from whence all sickness, sorrow and sighing have fled away and may her memory be eternal.

May the memory of the Lord's handmaiden, Laurie, be eternal!

May His Beatitude Jonah be comforted in his loss by the prayerful expectation of being reunited with her in Heaven.

I assume that the former Metropolitan's sister was Orthodox?

She had been received into the Orthodox Church 3 weeks ago under the patronage of St Laura of Cordoba and received all attendant rites and prayers.

With the large number of converted Orthodox clergy who have non-Orthodox parents, etc. it must be difficult dealing with deaths in their families where a regular Orthodox funeral can not be held, only the "Trisagion"

I hear that. Just like there are families that have priests and clergy in other Rites of the Catholic Church. The parents and siblings might be Roman faith, but there's one or two that convert to the Eastern Rite and become one of the most famous Byzantine priests in history. I think Fr. Loya's cousin was a Roman Rite priest here in the Cleveland/Akron area, iirc... He just concelebrated a Funeral Mass for one of my mother's friend's sons.
