Michael_Thoma,
I called the shop finally (sorry I didn't visit our forum and didn't see your request). They told me, that in a few days they will open a special account for foreign transactions, so that it will be easier to people from abroad to buy jewelry in their shop. They told me, that they send purchase with the Post of Russia. This is not good, because it takes a lot of time and it works not well. But DHL, for example, doesn't send jewelry (as they said). Let me give you advise - try to buy not an expensive thing and look how it will be delivered to your address. If you have problems with payment again don't hesitate to ask me. I'll try to do my best to help you. smile

Robert Pauly,

The prayer of St. Francis is beautiful.

Can anyone point out a source that would compare Western and Eastern icons, including their use and meaning?

Being from a Protestant background I sometimes have difficulty with Western icons, but find the Eastern icons wonderful. What is the difference in how they are used? I am attempting to learn more.

I appreciate much of Catholicism, including the liturgy and service.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

God bless,

David

Dear David-MD,

Your best bet is the book by Vladimir Lossky on icons. He does a definitive job of explaining the Orthodox theology of the icon and contrasts it with the Western view of religious pictures.

But be careful. After reading that book, you might feel drawn to Orthodoxy. So please be careful! grin

How about a sterling silver ring with the Jesus Prayer on it?

I ordered one of these from St. Anthony Greek Orthodox monastery in Arizona, and it is MUCH nicer than the photo depicts.

Orthodox Catholic,

Thank you for the reference -- and the caution. That is what I'm looking for. I'm very blessed by everyone on this site.

God bless you,

David
