This didn't get any response, but here it goes again.

If one was in the Metropolia of Pittsburgh, where would one direct monastic vocations?

It was our eparchies that sent out the Vocation Icon and instituted the Called by Name program. Now what? What do we do with those who are called to monasticism in the Metropolia of Pittsburgh?

Please list the monastery/ies you would direct a man to. Also, list the monastery/ies you would direct a woman to. I would like to learn what YOUR advise would be.

Would HRM be on that list? It is still listed with its own link on the home page of byzcath.org even though it is not part of the Metropolia. Just wondering.

Would one get reprimanded for sending monastic vocations to HRM since it is not "outside" our jurisdiction?

Anyone in the Metropolia wishing to advise? I would appreciate your comments. In fact, I would only like to hear from those who are members of the Metropolia of Pittsburgh. This is a practical matter.

Thanks,
Joe Thur

Along those lines, which (if any) monasteries and bishops are dedicated to renewing and expanding the Eastern Catholic Church? In the Byzantine Church? In the other Eastern Catholic Churches?

Do mean the constituent eparchies within the Metropolia or just Pittsburgh itself? I'll withold my answer until you clarify a bit.

Dear Friends,

My mental map of the U.S. is shaky - is Holy Trinity Monastery of Jordanville near Pittsburgh? ( wink ).

I'll assume without your response you mean all of the Eparchies of the Metropolia and start with men's monastic communities.

It hasn't come up since the "jurisdictional change" (I did suggest several check it out in the interim period when everyone knew they were changing) but that means little in my mind. I would send a discerning man to HRM posthaste if he showed interest, and also tell him about HTM in California and Mother of God in Ontario (both UGCC).

I have a larger duty outside of any "jurisdictional" one to fulfill the late Holy Father's desire to promote authentic Eastern monasticism as he so well articulated in his various Apostolic Letters, especially Orientale Lumen.

Provincialism and "jurisdictionalism" are church-killers.

Your task Joe (like in Mission Impossible) is to sort though the list of religious Institues listed above and find out which ones are Monastic and which ones are not and report back to us. Some may be Monastic, others Clerical Institutes or Saecular Institutes. Some may be Pontifical and other's Diocesan. Good luck mate. I await your report.

The Metropolia of Pittsburgh consists of the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh, Eparchy of Passaic, Eparchy of Parma, and the Eparchy of Van Nuys.

Let me clarify it more.

I ask where to send monastic vocations in the Byzantine-Ruthenian Catholic Church in the United States.

Does this help? Or are there a few technicalities I overlooked that only canon lawyers can dicker over?

Father Deacon Lance,

Now, where would you send a man who wishes to enter an Eastern Christian monastery in the Ruthenian Catholic Church of the Metropolia of Pittsburgh in the United States 'sui juris'?

You list says a lot, but offers nothing. Anyone can list all monasteries and religious communities.

Name ONE. You above list is just playing it safe. I know you are a deacon in the Metropolia, but you can't expect a vocation to go to ALL communities above. Can you just pick one?

Father Deacon Diak,

So, if the Ruthenian Metropolia (all four jurisdictions) is below par in its deacon and priestly training, we should recommend all our vocations to go elsewhere?

Your task is to give YOUR response to a man in the Ruthenian Metropolia where it is best for him. Not me.

Joe,

If some one asked me about a vocation I would give them as much information as possible. It is not my place to discourage someone from the Franciscans or Redemptorists because it is not envogue to be an Byzantine member of these Orders nowadays.

If they narrowed it to specifically traditional monasticism I would not hesitate to recommend Holy Trinity, Christ the Good Shepherd, Holy Resurrection, Holy Transfiguration, or Holy Mother of God.

If they further narrowed it to within the Metropolia, obviously the only current possibilites are Holy Trinity and Christ the Good Shepherd.

It is noone's task to tell anyone where it is best for him. That is for each to discern for themselves. Which is why I would give the list.
