The Apostolic Exarchate for Ukrainian Catholics in Great Britain has been raised [catholicherald.co.uk] to the status of eparchy. The new eparchy is called the Eparchy of the Holy Family of London.

The first Bishop of the Eparchy of the Holy Family of London is Bishop Hlib (Lonchyna) [catholicherald.co.uk], until now Apostolic Exarch of Great Britain.

The news was announced by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales [alturl.com], the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church [alturl.com], and the Vatican [alturl.com] today.

We are celebrating here. There are many good things to come in Britain, but we will need your prayers, not least for more priests and the means to support them.

Mnohaya Lita to the Faithful of the newly elevated Eparchy!

Ps
Excellent decision, though perhaps faulty process (1st Rome having to do it, rather than the Patr & Holy Synod); still, we are getting there!

Subdeacon John,

I suspect it means that, for you and Anhelyna, it means that you'll have bragging rights - "I know an Eparch!" - sounds much more impressive than "I know an Exarch" biggrin

Off-topic:

Herb,

Good to see you posting!

Many years,

Neil
