ORTHODOXY AND ORIENTAL ORTHODOXY

Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Axum Peter (Giakoumelos) takes part (wearing epitrachilion and omophorion) in the Blessing of Waters ceremony which was held in Addis Ababa on occasion of the feast the Feast of Theophany/Timkat (19.01.2013)

ORTHODOXY VERSUS ORIENTAL ORTHODOXY

Father Athanasios Henein, former rector of Saint Mary and Saint Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Athens (Greece) was received in the Orthodox Church through chrismation five months ago.

Well known for his anti-ecumenical attitudes Metropolitan Seraphin of Pireus (Church of Greece) appointed father Athanasios Henein rector of the Arabic speaking Orthodox community in his Metropolis and responsible (person in charge) of the catechetical work among the Arab speaking Monophysits (sic).

In the second video former Arab speaking Monophysists (former members of the Coptic Church and the Syrian Orthodox Church) are received in the Orthodox Chuch through chrismation (Divine Transfiguration Parish Church, Palia Kokkinia, Pireus, 20/01/2013).

The chrismation with the Holy Myron apparently not only makes heretics Orthodox Chritians but also makes Coptics and Syriacs (Assyrians) Arabs!!!

Interesting, but very strange. Rev. Father Athanasios Henein once lectured:

"The Coptic people resisted the Byzantium repression and the Roman persecution in the first centuries for the simple reason. The theology of the Coptic history is Christocentric and their Christology is Eschatological. That why they hope for nothing in this world but dignity, they fear nothing, they want to be free."

I wonder what changed for him.

So the Coptic priest becomes Orthodox? Does this mean he can serve the Divine Liturgy according to the Coptic rite? Would seem possible if those Copts who become Catholics retain their own Liturgy. Would be no different than Orthodox converts keeping a Roman Liturgy (Western Orthodox).

If that were true he wouldn't have accepted re-chrismation and re-ordination.

http://orthodoxwiki.org/Church_of_Alexandria_(Coptic)

In the summer of 2001, the Coptic Orthodox and Greek Orthodox Patriarchates of Alexandria agreed to mutually recognize baptisms performed in each other's churches, making rebaptisms unnecessary, and to recognize the sacrament of marriage as celebrated by the other. Previously, if a Coptic and Greek wanted to marry, the marriage had to be performed twice, once in each church, for it to be recognized by both. Now it can be done in only one church and be recognized by both.

One OCA military chaplain in Iraq told me that he had permission to give the Eucharist to Copts. I asked about Armenians but got no answer.
